Ever wonder what it would look like if you could eat video game food in real life? I ran a fun experiment using a Gemini AI image prompt to mash up retro gaming vibes with realistic photography.
The concept is simple but trippy: the people and the background stay 100% real, but the food gets swapped out for chunky, 32-bit pixel art. It’s a total glitch in the matrix—like your lunch just failed to load in high definition.

Then I used the following prompt using Nano Banana Pro.
Transform all food and visible items into 32-bit pixel art, featuring chunky square pixels with clear edges, resembling simplified retro sprites. Maintain the original placement, shapes, proportions, composition, and camera angle.
All human subjects, clothing, skin, hair, furniture, tableware, and background must remain perfectly realistic with no distortion. Ensure pixel elements are physically integrated into the scene, with correct lighting, shadows, and reflections consistent with the real environment.
Use clearly visible chunky 32 px blocks. Strictly flat color blocks: no blur, no outlines, no gradients on pixel objects.
After a few seconds, I got the following result. It was perfectly fit with what I wanted.

I tried another image here from Pixabay and fed it into Gemini with the same prompt.

Then I got the following image exported. The result was not bad. Even the beer bottle behind the man was converted into pixels.
